The following methods can be used to remove static electricity when planetary ball mills are in operation:

I. Grounding Measures

Equipment Grounding

Ensure the ball mill body is properly grounded. Use a dedicated grounding wire to connect the metal shell of the ball mill to the earth. The grounding resistance shall comply with relevant standard requirements, generally not exceeding 4 ohms.

② Regularly inspect the connection status of the grounding wire to ensure reliable grounding. If the grounding wire is found loose, corroded, or damaged, repair or replace it promptly.

Pipeline Grounding

The inlet and outlet pipelines of the ball mill shall also be grounded to prevent static electricity accumulation in the pipelines. Use metal wires to connect the pipelines to the ball mill's grounding system.

② For non-metallic pipelines, install conductive materials such as metal wire mesh inside or outside the pipelines and ground them to eliminate static electricity.

II. Humidity Increase

Environment Humidification

Increasing the relative humidity of the ball mill's operating environment can reduce static electricity generation. Generally, maintaining a relative humidity above 60% can effectively mitigate static electricity issues.

② Use humidifiers, water spraying, or other methods to increase environmental humidity. However, avoid excessive humidification to prevent adverse effects on equipment and materials.

Material Humidification

For materials prone to static electricity, conduct appropriate humidification treatment before feeding. For example, add a small amount of water to the materials or use a sprayer to humidify them.

② Materials after humidification will generate significantly less static electricity due to friction in the ball mill.

III. Use of Static Eliminators

Ion Fans

Install ion fans around the ball mill. Ion fans can generate a large number of positive and negative ions to neutralize static electricity in the air. The ion fans should be installed at an appropriate distance from the ball mill to ensure effectiveness.

② Regularly check the operating status of the ion fans to ensure they are functioning normally. If an ion fan malfunctions, repair or replace it promptly.

Static Elimination Bars

Install static elimination bars at the inlet/outlet of the ball mill, belt conveyors, and other locations. Static elimination bars neutralize static electricity on materials by releasing high-voltage static electricity.

② Maintain an appropriate distance between the static elimination bars and the materials to ensure effectiveness. Meanwhile, regularly inspect the operating status of the static elimination bars and clean dust and debris from their surfaces in a timely manner.

IV. Optimization of Operational Processes

Control of Feeding Speed

Reasonably control the feeding speed of the ball mill to avoid excessive friction caused by overly fast feeding, which generates excessive static electricity.

② Determine the appropriate feeding speed based on the ball mill's specifications and material characteristics.

Regular Equipment Cleaning

Regularly clean dust, debris, and other contaminants inside and outside the ball mill to reduce static electricity accumulation. Dust and debris can increase the generation and accumulation of static electricity, so maintaining equipment cleanliness is crucial.

② Use anti-static tools and materials when cleaning the equipment to avoid generating new static electricity.

V. Staff Training

Static Electricity Knowledge Training

Provide static electricity knowledge training to ball mill operators, enabling them to understand the principles of static electricity generation, hazards, and preventive measures.

② Training content shall include the correct use of grounding equipment, static eliminators, etc., as well as precautions to be observed during operation.

Safety Operating Procedures Training

Formulate safety operating procedures for the ball mill and conduct training for operators. The operating procedures shall include relevant static electricity protection content, such as checking grounding status before operation and avoiding wearing chemical fiber clothing.

② Operators must strictly comply with the safety operating procedures to ensure the safe operation of the ball mill.
