Excessive water vapor inside the glove box is a highly harmful yet easily overlooked issue in lithium battery research, perovskite experiments, and organometallic synthesis. Compared with oxygen, water vapor is more difficult to completely remove, which easily causes sample deliquescence, reagent failure, and poor repeatability of experimental data. Common causes of excessive water content include damp internal tools, water-carrying materials, incomplete gas replacement, and saturated purification adsorbents. To efficiently reduce water content and restore an ultra-low moisture experimental environment, professional technicians from stainless steel glove box manufacturers have summarized the practical methods as follows:

1. Thoroughly clean incoming materials to block moisture at the source

Most moisture inside the glove box is brought in by external materials and tools. All experimental vessels, tweezers, sample bottles, weighing paper and operating tools must be fully dried at high temperature and completely cooled before entering the box. Warm or damp materials are prohibited from direct entry. Wet samples, unsealed reagents and water-containing consumables should never be placed in the glove box. Blocking moisture input at the source effectively prevents continuous accumulation of internal water vapor.

2. Strengthen airlock replacement to remove residual moisture

Opening the main door for material handling leaves a large amount of humid air in the transition airlock, and a single replacement cannot completely remove moisture. When the water content is high, increase the frequency of inert gas replacement and adopt repeated cycles of “vacuuming – gas filling – pressure stabilization”. Multiple negative pressure replacements can thoroughly remove humid air from the airlock and the upper layer of the box, quickly dilute internal moisture, and achieve rapid dehumidification in a short time.

3. Inspect the dehumidification purification system and restore molecular sieve adsorption capacity

The dehumidification performance of the glove box mainly relies on the molecular sieve adsorption system. Slow water content reduction and persistently excessive humidity usually indicate saturated or failed adsorbents. Operators shall check the working status of the purification system and the adsorption condition of molecular sieves in a timely manner. Start the regeneration program to remove adsorbed moisture at high temperature once saturation occurs. Replace aging and non-regenerable molecular sieves with new consumables to ensure stable and continuous dehumidification performance.

4. Turn on full-range gas circulation to accelerate moisture removal

When the internal gas is static, water vapor tends to deposit on corners and tool surfaces, resulting in extremely low dehumidification efficiency. Keep the circulating fan running at full speed to accelerate internal gas convection. Suspended and surface moisture will continuously pass through the dehumidification purification column and be quickly adsorbed by molecular sieves. This solves the problems of local moisture accumulation and slow dehumidification, realizing full-range and rapid water removal.

5. Clean the internal environment to eliminate hidden moisture points

Residual organic solvents, liquid reagents, water stains and wet powder will continuously evaporate water vapor, causing repeated excessive water content. Regularly clean the inner cavity of the stainless steel box, glass window, glove interfaces and gaps. Wipe off residual liquid and clean up experimental waste and residue. Maintain a dry and dust-free internal environment to avoid continuous evaporation of hidden moisture and ensure stable dehumidification effects.

6. Stabilize internal air pressure and ambient temperature to prevent condensation and re-dampness

Negative pressure operation and excessive indoor temperature difference easily cause air backflow and inner wall condensation, greatly increasing internal humidity. Keep the glove box under slight positive pressure during experiment and standby status to prevent infiltration of external humid air. Maintain a stable laboratory temperature to avoid condensation caused by temperature difference, assisting in sustaining an ultra-low moisture environment inside the box.

Excessive water content is one of the main causes of failure for air-sensitive experiments. Compared with deoxygenation, dehumidification emphasizes source control and refined operation. Researchers shall standardize dehumidification procedures, inspect purification equipment regularly, and prohibit damp materials from entering the box. Timely reduction and long-term stabilization of internal water content ensure the smooth progress of various high-precision water and oxygen-free experiments.
